First Things First Proactive consists of an application, two system extensions, and a set of supplementary files and sample documents.
To Install FTF Pro:
-1- Turn off all Extensions by restarting your computer and pressing the shift Key until your computer is fully started up.
-2- Insert Disk #1 and double-click the FTF Pro Installer icon. After a message from Visionary about sharing your Installer with others as a Demo, click CONTINUE.
-3- In the next window, click INSTALL to install the full recommended First Things First Pro package or choose CUSTOM to install only those files you choose.
•INSTALL FTF Pro User's Guide
- To install an electronic version of the User's Guide, double-click the FTF Pro User's Guide Installer. The complete installation includes the Apple DocViewer application required to read the on-line User's Guide. To familiarize yourself with the features in FTF Pro, we recommend printing the DocViewer file "Learning FTF Pro" and completing the excercises described in the tutorial.
•SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
- FTF Pro requires System version 7.0 or later and at least 4 Megabytes of physical memory or RAM. The complete installation of First Things First Proactive and its associated files requires approximately 1.7 megabytes of disk space.
- Note: System 7.0 is not recommended by Apple for use with the Macintosh Plus or SE
•OPENING YOUR FIRST THINGS FIRST™ v3.0 "MY FTF AGENDA" FILE
-1- Open First Things First Proactive.
-2- Choose Open (Command-O) from the File menu.
-3- Locate and select the file "My FTF Agenda" in the Preferences folder within your active System Folder.
-4- Click Open.
(If your FTF Agenda file contains more than 600 items, you may have to increase FTF Pro's memory allocation to 2000K. See Adjusting Memory Size below.)
-5- Select the contents of the window by choosing Select All (Command-A) from the Edit menu.
-6- Open the Outline of your Master File and select the last topic in the Outline.
-7- Choose Paste (Command-V) from the Edit menu to paste the contents into your Master File.
•REMOVING OLDER VERSIONS OF FIRST THINGS FIRST™
- The system extension First Things First™ (version 3 and earlier) and the application-based First Things First Proactive are fully compatible and may be used at the same time. You may, however, choose to remove the earlier version once your agenda information has been transfered to a new FTF Pro file (see above).
- To remove previous versions, simply drag the file "First Things First™" out of your Extensions or System folder, and then Restart your Macintosh.
•ADJUSTING APPLICATION MEMORY SIZE
- If you are using First Things First to handle all of your scheduling and planning needs, you will quickly create files with many Items. This requires physical memory or RAM. FTF Pro is designed to prefer 1500K of memory, but large files may require more. To increase the amount of memory available to FTF Pro, select the FTF Pro application icon on your desktop and choose Get Info from the File menu of your Finder. A larger Preferred or Minimum Size will allow FTF Pro to load larger documents, to process more scheduling information, and to perform its functions more rapidly.
•KNOWN PROBLEMS AND CONFLICTS
- Printing problems may occur if the "Reduce or Enlarge" option within the Page Setup dialog is set to something other "100%." To control printing size, use FTF Pro's custom printing layouts or adjust the document's margins.
- The PowerBook Tools™ 1.0.0 battery indicator is not compatible with FTF Pro when running under battery power on PowerBook Duos.
- TouchBASE Pro v2.0 reminders are not compatible with FTF Pro.
- Power To Go v2.0 is not compatible with FTF Pro.
